The ECOGIG outreach office visited several schools in the Athens, GA area during the 2017-2018 school year, to share with students why the ocean is important, why marine scientists study it, why we should protect it and some great deep sea discoveries scientists have made! Students got to drive model versions of ROVs (remotely operated vehicles) as well as build models of deep sea tube worms! We spent two days at Oconee Primary, talking with 1st and 2nd grade students and then a day at Barrow Elementary talking with 5th grade students. We also visited schools in Atlanta, GA and Grayson, GA earlier this year.
