Dr. Passow’s expertise on marine snow, aggregation and sedimentation will provide the link connecting the water column with the seafloor. By combining deep time-series sediment trap studies with experimental work on marine snow formation, characteristics and fate, her group will determine conditions and mechanisms regulating quantitatively and qualitatively the flux of material from the surface ocean to the seafloor.
