Dr. Beizhan Yan

Dr. Yan is an organic geochemist with expertise is in isolating organics from environmental matrices and identifying them using modern technologies, including comprehensive two dimensional gas chromatography (2DGC) and Fourier-transform mass spectrometers (FTMS) and in conducting source apportionment of those contaminants based on their molecular and stable isotopic characteristics. He will use various column chromatography separation methods, identify known and unknown compounds using LC/MS/MS, GC/MS/MS, 2DGC, and Orbitrap FTMS to study the fate of hydrocarbons derived from oil spill and natural seeps.
