Dr. Juhl, biological oceanographer, conducts research related to coastal and estuarine water quality and the interactions between planktonic microorganisms that control biogeochemical fluxes. During this project he will conduct experiments to quantify rates of protist grazing on water-column bacteria and the effect of protist grazers on O2 consumption, nutrient regeneration, and hydrocarbon degradation, comparing areas with different seep hydrocarbon concentrations.
